Dr. Glen Corneil the Acting Medical Officer of Health for Temiskaming District made the announcement on Tuesday.
“This is not at all surprising, it was a matter of when it was going to happen, not if. Nothing changes, we should continue to practice distancing, and isolating as directed. This first case is a man in his 30’s, he was notified by the health unit on March 18th, he was a close contact with a positive person outside the region. This close contact was a returning traveler from the United States. He was already having mild symptoms, and made arrangements to be swabbed in the parking lot of a local primary care facility. He has strictly self isolated since that time”.
Dr. Corneil says we must maintain our current protocols, and says the person only had contact with immediate family since returning to the area. If you have not been contacted by the health unit you are fine.
