Armed Standoff Ends Peacefully


Some tense moments in Temiskaming Shores Thursday evening when the OPP answered a call about threats that turned into a brief armed standoff.

It happened about 7 pm when police responded to the call on Whitewood Avenue in New Liskeard.

They made contact with a man at the address who they believed had pointed multiple firearms at police from his residence.

Officers immediately closed down Whitewood Avenue and called in the Emergency Response Team.

Less than two hours later the man surrendered to police and was taken into custody.

As a result a 42 year old man from Temiskaming Shores was charged with several offences including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, pointing a weapon and uttering threats to use deadly force.

He was held pending a bail hearing.
